With a plethora of new Macintosh CPUs and the prospect of even stranger, non-68K CPUs on the horizon, how’s a programmer supposed to keep up? Maybe it’s time to review some basic tenets of Macintosh programming and point out some future pitfalls. Not only is it important that Apple evolve new hardware; Apple must evolve the operating system as well. The issues discussed here affect the ability of Apple to transform the Macintosh Operating System into a modern operating system. As you write new code, or review old code, be aware of these issues.

The object is done in a texture/color called "wooden head" but with some of Photoshop's utilities, I was able to make it look surprisingly like solid gold. After creating the object in Pixar, I took it into Photoshop and used the lasso tool to create a copy of the snake-thing, and then pasted it onto the background. The background is hard to describe because of its psychadelic detail. Main colors are purple, gold, blue, yellow, green, and gray. By Romancrow.

Instead of playing on a 3 by 3 grid you now play on a 4 by 4 grid that makes it more difficult to win. For those few people that are not completely sure of the rules and the game-play I will give a short description. The object of the game is to get either four X's or O's lined up horizontally, vertically or diagonal before your opponent. Once you have moved in a space you or your opponent cannot move in that same space. When someone has lined four up, the game will end and the next game will start.

950Color AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:A:950 Color.sit 950 Color.sit 0 4K 7/28/92 950 Color - 950 Color Addition is a system software extension that fixes a minor problem on Macintosh Quadra 950 computers. This extension does nothing on other Macintosh computers. The problem addressed only manifests itself under certain conditions. When a color monitor is connected to the on-board video circuitry and the Monitors control panel is set to millions of colors, certain color manipulation commands may not work in some graphics application programs. The problem is not destructive. Your machine will not crash and data will not be corrupted. Installing the 950 Color Addition corrects the problem.

The device is effectively turned off by setting its service routine pointer and data pointer to 0 (or NIL/NULL for you programmers). An additional extension (startup document) can be used to disabled ADB devices when the CPU is booted. The Inside Macintosh manuals recommend against adding any ADB devices to the bus while the CPU is on. If you have been adding and removing devices, try ADBManager instead.

In order to make the RAM Status call on a machine that is setup to answer calls, you must first make the GetUserPortGlobalsPtr call to retrieve a pointer to the globals for the user port. The Apple Remote Access (ARA) 1.0 client software supports dial-out and answering capabilities through a single port called the “user” port (the modem or printer port on your Mac). This means that when you setup your machine to answer calls, you can answer only one call at a time on the user port. However, the underlying ARA architecture was designed so that in the future multiple ports may be supported...

ARAServer AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:Frontier:ARA Server.sit ARA Server.sit 0 15K 7/28/92 ARA Server - One of the most exciting new capabilities to come along in quite some time is Apple Computer's AppleTalk Remote Access, or ARA. It allows you to create a connection between a remote computer and a local area network. We like ARA at UserLand, in fact we use it to bridge computers here all the time. It works. Then we heard that Apple was offering an API for ARA -- we couldn't resist creating a small "applet" to bridge ARA to Frontier script writing. As a result, your scripts can now operate over a phone line! This is going to be very interesting.
